The Joint Steering Committee of the project NETMIN „Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas” RORS-308, reunited online on December 6th, 2024. There has been discussed  the sustainability of the project results in the fourth year after the end of project implementation. Partners discussed about recruiting new members for the network, to keep the network growing and about common grounds on disseminating the project results both in the scientific community, and to relevant stakeholders in the mining areas, to raise awareness regarding the possibility to use phytoremediation in combating the negative effects of mining upon soil.

On November 9th, 2023, the World Quality Day, the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (Politehnica University Timisoara) organized the third edition of the symposium entitled Quality – an asset for the future. The event is an opportunity to focus the attention of individuals, teams, non-profit organizations, companies and decision-makers, on the essential aspects aimed at improving the quality of life, services and products.

In the section dedicated to presentations made by teaching staff and students, assoc. prof. Cornelia Muntean presented the results of the NETMIN project in the field of environmental quality assessment and the measures that can be applied to reduce the pollution of mining areas.

The Joint Steering Committee of the project NETMIN „Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas” RORS-308, reunited on December 7th, 2023, online. There has been discussed  the sustainability of the project results in the third year after the end of project implementation.

The 53rd INTERNATIONAL OCTOBER CONFERENCE on Mining and Metallurgy, organized on 3-5 October 2022 in Bor, Serbia, proved to be a generous setting for reiterating some of the most relevant results obtained by a Romanian-Serbian team of researchers from the two countries during their cooperation framework of the project NETMIN RORS-308 „Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas”. The training sessions with students and stakeholders in the mining areas, blended with workshops and phytoremediation studies showed that when science meets practice great results can be obtained in service of environmental projects. Local communities in mining areas can benefit from these results, should they choose to implement phytoremediation to deal with combating the negative effects of mining upon soil, with significant impact both in Bor area (Serbia), where mining is still active, and in the Romanian former mining areas in Caras-Severin and Timis counties.

The Joint Steering Committee of the network created within the framework of the project NETMIN-RORS-308 „Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas” reunited on November 5th, 2021, in Bor (Serbia) to discuss the sustainability of the project results in the first year after the end of project implementation. Partners agreed upon the strategy of recruiting new members, to keep the network growing and upon common grounds on disseminating the project results both in the scientific community, and to relevant stakeholders in the mining areas, to raise awareness regarding the possibility to use phytoremediation in combating the negative effects of mining upon soil.

Scientific Romanian-Serbian Cross-border cooperation leads to important results in the environmental preservation and remediation. The final gala of the project RORS-337 “ROmania Serbia NETwork for assessing and disseminating the impact of copper mining activities on water quality in the cross-border area” organized in Timisoara (Romania) on September 3rd, 2021, was a good opportunity for presenting the findings within another significant project, also finances through the same Interreg-IPA line, namely “Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas”. Assoc. prof. Cornelia Muntean, project manager for the project RORS-308 “Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas” (NETMIN) explained the importance of phytoremediation of soils in copper mining areas, with a benefic influence on the quality of the environment, including the management of water resources.  Participants in the gala could understand the need for creating a synergy between the projects, leading to science-based solutions for enhancing the efforts towards a better environment protecting measures.

On March 22nd, 2021, the World Water Day, the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering (Politehnica University of Timisoara) organized the first edition of the symposium entitled Water – The Essence of Life (AquaSensTim), aimed at raising awareness of students, pupils, professors, researchers, and professionals in water management regarding this precious, life-sustaining resource. Due to the COVID-19 related measures, this edition of the symposium was held online. Nevertheless, the interest of participants was high, especially on finding the multitude of elements that influence water quality and environment health. In the section dedicated to “Science and technology for water preservation” assoc. prof. Cornelia Muntean presented aspects related to the topic of the symposium found during managing the project RORS-308 “Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas”.

The League of Students in Chemistry initiated, on March 19th, 2021, a workshop on professional development, including participation in research teams and projects. On this occasion assoc. prof. Cornelia Muntean, vice dean of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering and project manager of RORS-308 “Forming of network for enhancing environmental protection from pollutants of mining cross border areas” explained how students and young researchers contributed to this cross-border project, carried out in the Western part of Romania and in Bor region, Serbia. Also, in sharing the Project results, Mrs. Muntean pointed out the possibilities new generations of students have to build upon the obtained findings and develop their own European-funded projects.
